Shawn Evans Missions Scholarship
Shawn Evans served on the Central NYI Field for over 25 years in various capacities and has been an advocate for teens throughout his entire ministry career. In 2016, Shawn and his wife Ashley took over as directors of Encuentro Missions and continue to lead the organization to this day. Encuentro is a sending agency of the Church of the Nazarene that provides short-term mission opportunities for students and adults and has seen thousands of people serve over the years and has helped numerous people navigate a calling from God in their lives. Shawn never wants anyone, especially a student, to miss out on missions due to finances and will move heaven and earth to provide a way. This scholarship has been established to ensure students can participate in short-term missions.
Scholarship amount can be UP TO $500 (contingent on available funds)
Students must be in middle school or high school and be planning to attend a short-term mission trip (1-4 weeks in length) within the next 12 months. (NYC not eligible for funds)
Funds received must go directly towards offsetting the cost of the trip. Please don’t use the funds for misc items needed for the trip (clothing, passport, etc)
Application and reference are due by Feb 13, 2026. Both forms are completed online.
Results will be communicated by Mar 6, 2026. Members of the Central NYI Field Council will serve as the selection committee to determine awards.
Funds will be distributed directly to the sponsoring organization/group (church, agency, etc) by mid-February.
Upon completion of the trip, we would request a simple 1 page summary of your trip within 2 weeks of arriving home. Please send to Eric Wood (ericw@valponaz.church)
What did you accomplish? What was the highlight? What was difficult? What was unusual about the place you went to? What did you learn? In what was did God speak to you? How is your life different after this trip?
